Like Coming Home

In doing the research for my novel, Love Finds You in Humble, Texas, I uncovered all sorts of gems in the wonderful village of Humble. Among the treasures that sparkled the brightest was a woman named Carolyn McCarty. She works for the Chamber of Commerce there, and when I told her I was writing a novel set in Humble, she was so excited she wanted to escort me all over the town. Which she did. We had a marvelous time together touring the city as she answered all my questions, shared many of the wonderful stories surrounding this Mayberry-like town, and generally befriended me. Her patience and humor and generosity of spirit was remarkable and memorable. Carolyn McCarty is the essence of all things gracious and all things Southern. My life is richer to have met her.

It’s been a wonderful experience getting to know small town America again—it’s like coming home. And I hope my novel, Love Finds You in Humble, Texas, encourages you to visit some of these quaint towns across our great land—towns that have warmth and color and heart—just like stepping into a Norman Rockwell painting. And if you do drop by for a visit or a vacation stay, I’m sure you too will be embraced by the folks who live there, and perhaps you’ll even make a new friend as fine as Carolyn McCarty.

Blessings and happy Thanksgiving!

I heard the stats the other day, but can’t quite remember the number. Soemthing like 70% of Americans live in urban areas. I think there is a natural curiosity with things we don’t know about. I, of course, know probably too much about small towns. This project is such an ingenious way to get people acquainted with a simpler way of life.

Okay so I just finished the book. It was so much fun to read. To take the little town I grew up in and make it some to life in this book was so much fun.

You really touched on all things important to the people of Humble. From the Bridge at Black Cat Ridge to the way to tell wether someone is truly from here just by the way they pronounce our name. It was so cool. You spoke of the artesian well and our beloved yearly Humble High School ALumni reunions (which not many places have).

Thank you for making Humble come to life for so many others. This is a book I will reccomend to all of my friends!!!

    Good morning, Christy,

So glad you stopped by. I loved writing about Humble, Texas! And I’m so happy to hear that my reseach went well. I live in the general Houston area, but my address is Tomball. So Humble was about a 40 minute drive from me. It was easy to do the reseach, but most of all it was delightful.

Thank you, Christy, for telling your freinds about Love Finds You in Humble, Texas. I think readers are the best of all people!
